YOKOMO DRIFT WHEEL LIGHTS R/C Drifting has been around a few years now and although I don't own an r/c drift car, a lot of the parts they make to bling out the cars are really cool, and can easily be adapted to use on any car.
Part numbers: YOKOMO SD-WLR DRIFT WHEEL LED LIGHT RED YOKOMO SD-WLB DRIFT WHEEL LED LIGHT BLUE YOKOMO SD-WLG DRIFT WHEEL LED LIGHT GREEN After seeing these drift lights on the Yokomo website, it got me thinking. Could they be adapted to fit a mini? Or were they a touring car only item? Since nobody in the rc-mini crew has a drift car (we all love minis right?) someone had to bite the bullet and order some … even if they do cost as much as a complete M03 mini kit from r/c champ :-) I ordered the red wheel light thinking that the red would resemble a glowing red brake disc … which now that I think of it is completely silly, because nobody who runs a mini uses brakes - right? It was very hard to find a rim that would actually fit with the yokomo wheel light. Kawada rims and Tamiya rims would not work at all, the hex part would foul with the wheel light or the spoke of the wheel would hit the light. Eventually I had to use the HPI dish rims … there may be other rims that would work, but these are the only rims I could find out of my many, many sets of mini rims. As you can see in the photos, they don't just bolt on, a whole lot of dremeling needs to be done. The photos show them mounted to an ABC Genetic chassis with Cube body, but the rims and wheel lights have also been used on an M03 without any problem. If you race at night or indoor and you have lots of disposable income, splash out and buy some! Cool factor is a "4 Timmy" rating! (it would have been 5 but nobody likes the effort of cutting something to make it fit). |
