STUFF YOU TWO! Very often you'll see a reference to double-stuffing the front tyres of a Mini. And if you're lucky it'll also explain what that means. But..the amount of questions we get about it indicates that a lot of people are in the dark still. So..here's what its all about. Put simply, double-stuffing is the practice of putting TWO inserts into your front tyre, more specifically into a Tamiya 60D (It doesnt work on anything else)
So how does it work? Well the trick is to use a cut down Touring car insert on the outside (closest to the tread) and a foam one on the inside (closest to the wheel) The Touring car insert is cut and a section taken out of it. Cut it to fit nicely into the tyre and then just use a bit of tape to hold the ends together. Then once you've got it in the tyre, fit the foam. (In this case its a normal 60D hard foam insert) OK, now it's a real pain in the arse to get it all onto the wheel now, but when you've done so you'll get a much firmer and flatter tyre. The advantage? Some people say it gives you a bigger diameter, but a Type A is belted and cant expand. What it does do is help keep the tyre tread surface more stable, and it wears a bit better. Do you need to do it? It's a personal thing, some people do, some don't. But at least now you know how. |
